Here at Izzipuzzle.com we love any excuse to get involved in a jigsaw!

Not only is our favorite past-time seriously fun, it also is great for our mental health! Here is how your puzzle-tastic hobby can help you…

1. Improves Focus

Jigsaws require concentration. They demand attention to detail, particularly when the pieces are small (like ours at izzipuzzle), as focus is needed to complete the overall image.

Concentration is a fundamental skill that we all need to have. It can help us both in the workplace and at home. Jigsaw puzzles are a great way for both adults and children to learn focus skills which will benefit them every day.

2. Encourages Mental Exercise

A jigsaw puzzle is actually a complete brain workout!

The right side of your brain is the creative side, controlling emotions and creativity. The left side is the methodical side in charge of logical thinking. Luckily your jigsaw puzzle requires both sides of your brain! This improves communication and cognitive function.

Your brain works to connect shapes, colors and patterns whilst solving puzzles, which can be very helpful for people suffering from cognitive decline.

3. Improves Memory

Jigsaws are a great way to improve short-term memory skills as we are encouraged to recognize shapes and colors and put together a mental picture of the “overall image”. We are encouraged to remember pieces to help us reach our final goal.

4. Encourages Teamwork

A puzzle is a fun way to connect with family and friends. You are able to rely on others for support and work together to complete the image.

You learn each other's strengths and weaknesses and find a harmonious way of working that encourages strong relationships in your everyday life.

5. Decreases Stress

As a calming pastime, Jigsaw puzzles can reduce stress and anxiety. They provide a relaxing creative outlet which gives you the chance to escape the everyday. A great way to leave your problems behind at the end of the day.

Decreasing your stress levels comes with many benefits of its own. Such as mood improvement, higher self-confidence, lower blood pressure levels and better physical health.

So, there you have it!

On top of all of these great health benefits, Jigsaw puzzles are also super fun and creative! Do you enjoy them as much as we do?!
